Safe Steps for Kids: Road Safety Initiative

Summary

This project will build a safe and secure waiting area for children, equipped with a shelter and bench. The project will also create a formalized crosswalk so that children can access the bus stop more safely. This initiative is designed to ensure the safety of the children as they walk to and wait for their school bus.

Project Overview

This project aims to enhance the safety and well-being of children at the Chawathil First Nation IR#2 bus stop. The primary goal is to create a secure and comfortable waiting area for children by constructing a crosswalk from Ross Road across the street to the bus stop, accompanied by a shelter and bench. This initiative is designed to ensure the safety of children as they wait for their school bus.

The community is experiencing growth with the construction of 31 new housing units and the potential future establishment of a daycare in the area. We anticipate that this growth will lead to increased traffic and a greater number of children who will be taking the bus, further emphasizing the need for improved safety measures.

Implementing this project will directly address these safety concerns by providing a more structured and secure environment for children. The introduction of a crosswalk, coupled with a shelter and bench, will not only safeguard children but also instill confidence in parents about their children’s safety. This project represents a proactive approach to community well-being, reinforcing the importance of safe and accessible transportation options for our children and youth.
