There is a cycling boom taking place and older adults are helping fuel the explosion. Since many older adults have not been on a bike for many years and traffic rules and the introduction of bike lanes have changed since they are riding, we would like to build a cycling safety and skills course for our adult and senior members.
Our project aims to enhance road safety for older cyclists by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate today’s more challenging traffic conditions. Over the years, road rules have changed, and traffic volume has increased, creating concerns for older riders. Staying informed and developing safe riding techniques is essential to reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
This course will provide our members with a comprehensive understanding of defensive cycling strategies, situational awareness, and the ability to interpret traffic signs and recognize potential hazards. Through hands-on practice in a secure and controlled environment, older adults will have the opportunity to build confidence and improve their cycling skills. By the end of the course, participants will feel more prepared to ride safely on the road, ultimately fostering greater independence and well-being within the community.
