Road Signage Safety Improvement Project

Summary

The project aims to enhance road safety in Kanaka Bar by installing road safety signage and speed reminders near the daycare, play grounds, and hills, where community members have identified speeding as a safety concern for children, families, and Elders. These improvements will encourage safer driving, reinforce long-term safe travel habits, and support walkability.

Project Overview

The project aims to enhance road safety across Kanaka Bar’s territory by installing road safety signage, with a focus on Lower Kanaka and the area surrounding the daycare centre. Speeding has been identified by community members as a concern, particularly in areas where children, families, and Elders travel regularly. Residents have noted that increasing traffic and faster vehicle speeds are creating safety risks, especially as Lower Kanaka continues to grow as a vibrant neighbourhood with many young families. In response, the community is taking proactive steps to strengthen road safety and support safe travel for all community members.

The addition of speed limit signs and monitors will promote safer, more mindful driving. The project will also contribute to long-term road safety by reinforcing safe travel habits as the community continues to grow. Signage is a simple and effective tool that supports safer mobility for walkers, children, Elders, and anyone who travels through the territory. This work reflects a prevention-based approach that aligns with Vision Zero principles by reducing potential risks before they develop into incidents.
