Reducing Driver Speeding on Roadways

Summary

To help reduce speeding, especially in areas with vulnerable road users, the Town of Gibsons plans to purchase four mobile radar speed signs. Two signs will be installed in the Gibsons Elementary school zone during the school year and relocated to other areas in the summer. The remaining two signs will rotate throughout town, covering key routes near schools, daycares, seniors’ centers, parks, and beaches.

The mobility of these signs will allow for flexible deployment, addressing speeding concerns at critical times — such as the start of the school year or peak tourist season— enhancing safety for residents and visitors alike.
