McBride Village Loop Trail Plan

Summary

The Village of McBride Loop Plan project will see the development of engineered design plans for a separated, urban trail network within the municipality. The project will move McBride closer to constructing the Loop Trail network to connect residents and visitors with retail and commercial centres, educational facilities, recreation areas, and other assets and realize a much-desired community asset, first envisioned in 2008, to encourage healthy outdoor activities, foster equity and inclusion, and improve vulnerable road user safety.

Project Overview

The Village of McBride is a small community of 600 residents in the Robson Valley, with extensive wilderness recreation opportunities nearby but very limited in-town, all-ages active transportation options. Community surveys, public consultation, and multiple municipal plans consistently identify the need for an accessible, year-round urban trail network to support safe walking, cycling, mobility aids, and family recreation within the municipality.

McBride’s Official Community Plan (2008), Downtown & Main Street Revitalization Plan (2021), Economic Development Action Plan (2018), and the McBride Tourism Master Plan (2020), all reference the need for a separated, accessible trail network that supports healthy living, encourages active transportation, increases connectivity between high-use areas in the community, and provides a safe and enjoyable option for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. Completing engineered design for the Village Loop Trail is the essential next step to advance this long-standing community priority.
