Crossing Safety Improvements

Summary

This project will improve pedestrian visibility, driver awareness, and overall crossing safety by establishing painted crosswalks at all priority pedestrian crossing locations throughout the Village. The project will also include installing a flashing crosswalk beacon on a dedicated pole within the new residential development. These improvements will support safe and accessible pedestrian connections to key community destinations.

Project Overview

The project will strengthen the Village’s pedestrian network by establishing clearly marked and more predictable crossing points at priority locations throughout the community. The painted crosswalks will increase the visibility of pedestrian routes, help alert drivers to locations where pedestrian activity can be expected, and provide greater continuity between residential neighbourhoods and important community destinations.

A flashing crosswalk beacon mounted on a dedicated pole will also be installed within the new residential development. The development includes a proposed 40-unit subsidized housing project and new single-family residential lots, which are expected to increase pedestrian activity in the area. The beacon will provide enhanced visual notification to approaching drivers and support safer pedestrian movement into and out of the development.

This project prioritizes vulnerable road users and uses visible, consistent crossing treatments to reduce risk and make pedestrian movements more apparent and predictable. Together, the improvements will support safe and accessible connections to healthcare and educational facilities, recreation amenities, parks, community services, cultural activities, and the downtown core.
